Pinot Gris
Blue Rock Pinot Gris 2009
MartinboroughPinot Gris
A late harvested Pinot Gris with an indulgent perfume displaying an abundance of sweet peach, ripe nectarine, mandarin and blanched nuts on the nose. In the mouth, this lush Pinot Gris still has backbone in the form of a marmalade-like quality that pulls together flavours of poached oranges and roasted pear onto a succulent finish. More

Sauvignon Blanc
Blue Rock Sauvignon 2009
MartinboroughSauvignon Blanc
Slow, gentle pressing of hand-picked Sauvignon Blanc grapes has enhanced the subtler fruit and floral aspects of this wine. Spicy lemongrass, Thai mint and rose, with varietal fruit notes of pineapple and red, crunchy capsicum on the nose, spill onto a full, rich and well-rounded palate. Full of fresh tropical fruit and lime flavours, followed by a clean and mineral finish, the wine is entirely mouth-filling, encompassing every single taste-bud on the palate! More

Chardonnay
Blue Rock Unoaked Chardonnay 2009
MartinboroughChardonnay
Pear, apple, and subtle cantaloupe aromas are typical of the Mendoza clone of Chardonnay that we grow on the limestone rich soils of the Blue Rock vineyard. In the mouth, crisp Red-Delicious apples dominate the flavours of a mouth-drying palate, which shows backbone and a broad texture, due to extended yeast lees stirring. Although unoaked, the lees contact has created a wine with savoury complexities reminiscent of shortbread, hazelnut and cinnamon. More

Syrah/Shiraz
'Saleyards' Syrah 2008
MartinboroughSyrah/Shiraz
The 2008 Syrah is an elegant style that displays typical vibrant red plum flavours along with distinctive sweet camphor, clove and frankincense spices. Earthy and savoury notes develop over time, yet this wine always retains its finesse and light-footedness. Fine grained tannins complimented by mouth-watering fruit acidity and tingling spices, complete an even, lingering finish. Although this wine demonstrates much grace it does match well with full-flavoured dishes such as Pork belly, Venison and Roasted mushrooms. More

Fresh and mineral on the nose, with juicy aromas of grapefruit and fresh lime, this cool climate Riesling from lime-stone rich soils has plenty of ripe fruit concentration on the nose. Burnt Spur Martinborough Pinot Gris 2008
MartinboroughPinot Gris
The elegant, fruity aromas are a gentle introduction to a big wine. Like many Pinot Gris there is high alcohol but here it is well balanced by good fruit concentration. There is an opulent texture to the wine that suits the soft acidity. Great with food too and well worth the extra pennies. More

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2008 2008
MartinboroughPinot Noir
This second batch of estate Pinot Noir was bottled in March of 2009. Produced from fruit from the Blue Rock Vineyard and other vineyard sites in Martinborough, this selection from mature oak barrels displays soft and savoury complexities that are ready to enjoy right now! Very ‘Martinborough’ in its character with an abundance of Portobello mushroom and forest floor aromas, this wine reminds one of walking through a park, kicking up autumn leaves! Fruit intensity is well-matched in ripe red currant and cherry flavours that are integrated by ginger, cardamom and sandalwood spices. This is a whole and ‘ready-now’ Pinot that loves to show off its many charms! More

Pinot Noir
Martinus Estate Pinot Noir 2008
MartinboroughPinot Noir
In what was essentially a disappointing line up of 08 Pinots, this was definitely one of the leading lights. The consumers thought so too! It has a vibrant and complex nose containing elements of smoke and leather with a burnt caramel undercurrent. This complexity continues in palate with weighty berry fruit, spice and good weight. Tannins are tight but well balanced and the finish has good length. Enjoy. More

Riesling
Blue Rock Riesling 2007
MartinboroughRiesling
Murdoch James produces two Rieslings. This is our premium wine, using selected fruit from the limestone-based soils of the Blue Rock Vineyard. In mid-April 2006, a very small crop of Riesling was hand harvested. Vintage conditions created a range of flavours in the fruit including tropical, citrus and some ‘ultra ripe’ floral aromatics. A refrigerated tank was used to cool and slow the ferment and retain a wide range of delicate aromatics. Two months ‘sur lie’ was employed, to promote a rich, creamy texture and compliment the wine’s crisp, mouth-watering acids. Residual sugar acts to fatten the wine on the palate rather than provide impressions of sweetness. More
