| Winegrowing in Wairarapa |
3 Terraces Vineyard | The capital of New Zealand since 1865, Wellington is the sixth largest wine region. This includes the lower end of the North Island and the west coast vineyards northward through the Rimutaka Hill road to Wairarapa, including the well-known township and wine district Martinbourough.
Moderately hot summer days and cool autumn nights, free draining gravelly fertile soil are yielding remarkable wines from this well recognized wine area.
Pinot Noir from this region, highly praised as some of New Zealand's most distinguished Reds boasts the largest planted variety in this area with Chardonnay a close second. Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are also recognized for their outstanding success and performance in this area.
Only producing approximately, 1% of all New Zealand's wine, Wairarapa's winemakers are creating an impressive show with their quality wines.
