Institute of Masters of Wine Annual Burgundy Tasting (2007 Vintage)
The Institute of Masters of Wine will hold its 14th annual Burgundy Tasting at Vintners’ Hall in the City of London on Monday, 8th February.
The walk-around tasting, first held in 1997, has become a key event in the Institute’s calendar. It provides a first class opportunity to assess objectively both white and red wines from some of the region’s finest producers.
Since its inception, this annual tasting has been organised by the Institute in association with the Domaines Familiaux de Tradition, a group of family-owned producers from some of the most highly respected domaines in the Cote d’Or. The wines of the Domaines Familiaux de Tradition reflect the different terroirs of Burgundy and highlight the levels of quality achievable in each vintage.
The event will feature almost 70 individual wines from the 2007 vintage and takes place from 10am to 1pm on 8th February 2010.
Members of the Domaines Familiaux de Tradition whose 2007 wines will feature at the tasting include: Marquis d’Angerville; Simon Bize; Chandon de Briailles; Bruno Clair; Joseph Drouhin; Domaine Dujac; Domaine Faiveley; Henri Gouges; Jean Grivot; Michel Lafarge; Dominique Lafon; Bonneau du Martray; Hubert de Montille; Armand Rousseau; Tollot-Beaut et Fils; Chateau de la Tour; Chateau de Chorey; Senard; De Suremain; Leflaive; Mugnier; Pierre Moray; Roumier; Gaunoux; and Jean-Louis Trapet.
In addition to the Domaines Familiaux de Tradition producers listed above, Maison Louis Jadot, a major supporter of the Institute, has provided samples of its 2007 wines for the tasting.
In assessments to date, the 2007 vintage is generally accepted to be a fine year for whites, producing wines with great ageing potential which are exemplified by ripeness of fruit and crisp, refreshing acidity. The red wines have shown more variability with an accepted view that many wines will be ready to drink at an early age, delivering good levels of fruit and some lighter tannins but carrying none of the exotic richness of 2005, nor the classic structure of 2006.
Mark Bingley MW, Chair of the Institute’s Events Committee said: “This tasting provides an excellent overview of the vintage due to its timing, as the 2007 wines have now settled in bottle. It has become the must attend annual tasting for Masters of Wine, our students, and members of the wine trade with a serious interest in Burgundy. The range of wines offered in the tasting, through the generous support of the members of the Domaines Familiaux de Tradition and Maison Louis Jadot, is very important it allows those attending to gain the fullest impression of the characteristics and quality of the vintage.”
A limited number of tickets remain available for the tasting, which is open to the public. Priced at £80 each, they must be pre-booked by contacting Helen Williams, Events Manager at the Institute, by email on hwilliams@mastersofwine.org or by telephoning +44 (0)207 621 2830.
