Chardonnay
Chardonnay

Originates in Burgundy, France and makes some of the finest wines in the world. It is not only popular with drinkers but growers as well because chardonnay is easy to grow, has high ripeness levels and is malleable to a wide of wine-making techniques. Chardonnay now ranks second in New Zealand consumption having been overtaken by Sauvignon a couple of years ago.

Wine Description
new 06 SP Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
This wine was produced in Marlborough, which is recognised as the most innovative leader in the world for the production of distinctive and regionally recognisable wines. The Marlborough region is situated at the northern tip of the South Island of New Zealand. It has a dry climate with warm daytime temperatures and cool nights, and the distinction of having the greatest number of sunshine hours in New Zealand.

The 2006 vintage was extraordinarily early, warm weather in the early part of the season enabled both flavour and sugar development to progress well. This resulted in ripe melon flavours in the Chardonnay.
Winemakers Notes
Light yellow straw in colour with green hues. The nose shows hints of oak along with sweet stone fruits including peach. The palate finds ripe fruit flavours of melon and peach, well structured and balanced with hints of creamy French oak and buttery characters.
WineMaker: Peter Munro
Region: Marlborough
Cellaring: Suitable for consumption now, however further cellaring will develop more mature characters through to 2009.
Food Match: A very good match with snapper, chardonnay and caper pie.
